Ways to Add More Veggies to Your Life


Getting in your suggested amount of veggies each day can take some practice.


The American Heart Association suggests five servings of veggies per day for an adult, with a typical serving equaling about one cup.


If you add a serving to breakfast, lunch, and dinner while snacking on raw veggies and hummus throughout the day, you can reach this goal.


But busy days have us skipping breakfast sometimes, grabbing a quick sandwich for lunch, and this goal can seem more difficult.


Here are a few ways to make sure you're getting your veggies in each day:

  • Cook a veggie-heavy soup you'll reheat for lunch each day. You can switch up the recipe to keep things interesting, but this is such a simple way to get those veggies in and have lunch already made.

  • Snack on veggies. You can easily enjoy a cup of sliced red pepper or carrots with guacamole, greek yogurt, or hummus as a snack each day. Yum!

  • Pack easy to snack on veggies such as baby carrots and sliced peppers.

  • Blend up veggies in your smoothie.

  • Use blended veggies in your sauces, gravy and even dips.

  • Make it a goal to serve a salad and 1-2 veggie side dishes with your supper meal.

  • Get creative and think daily on ways to add your veggies!
