It was 30 years ago this month that I graduated with my BSN in Nursing.
Ready to take on the world of healthcare and pursue my passion of taking care of people in need.
I worked several years in the critical care and emergency realm and loved every minute of it. I can look back on those days now with great pride because I truly thrived in that environment.
When I decided to be a stay at home mom, yet work part time in nursing with seniors, It was then that I truly saw a huge need; people rapidly declining with age and it seemed so preventable. I began to see a pattern. It seemed those that remained active, ate healthy and kept a positive attitude were the ones that thrived.
I began to think about pursuing my master's degree but didn't want to be involved with the sick side of nursing. No, I wanted to help people live a better life well into their "golden years." I even made sure I was practicing what I preached and kept working out and taking care of my whole self.
I discovered a master's level course that was entitled, Master's of Nutrition and Wellness. BINGO! That was it!! I had to get started and show myself, and my kids that you are never too old to start something new.
Now, I have always been a health advocate. I have always worked out and kept up with my study of nutrition. I obtained a minor in Human Nutrition when I graduated with my BSN. I love nutrition and health and always have. Now I found an advanced degree that would allow me to move to the wellness side of health. I was ecstatic!
I decided to pursue the degree with the entrepreneurial side and become a Certified Health Coach in the process. That is where Health Matters Nutrition & Wellness was born.
Now I can work in my much loved area of health and wellness and teach people that aging does not have to be a negative. You can age positively! Our bodies are machines and have to be taken care of or they will fail us.
Aging positively is the key to a long, happy life. It involves being healthy in body, mind and spirit. It takes work but it is healthy work.
I'm sure you hear it frequently from people around you that they just feel worn out, their bodies ache, they are gaining weight and losing ambition. I hear it too! It makes me crazy!
If you can learn to take care of your body, mind and spirit, you can experience dramatic positive changes in your well being.
It is never too late to start!
I am passionate about this topic and want to spread the news to the world....you can age positively!!
